World Communications Day
World Communications Day 2016
World Communications Day takes place this year on Sunday 8 May - The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord. On this feast of the Ascension of Our Lord we reflect on the mandate that we should “Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good news”.
On this day, Catholics are encouraged to pray for all those professionals who work in the field of communications. A particular prayer intention is for those who communicate on behalf of the Catholic Church in this country through the Catholic Communications Network.
The CCN is the Communications Office of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
It seeks to support the Bishops in their key national priorities in education, combatting human trafficking, life issues, safeguarding, prisons, interfaith relations and vocations, to name but a few.
CCN is responsible for developing the public profile of the Church in the press, radio and TV, digitally and across social media platforms. It is also a very helpful resource for national and international media professionals.
World Communications Day Prayer
O God,
whose word is truth
and in whose light we see light,
guide those who tell the story
of our times
through word and image.
Make them seekers after truth
and advocates of human dignity.
Grant discernment to all
who rely on their labours,
and, as we confront the pain
and promise of this world,
awaken in us a sense of wonder
at your presence
and of longing for your peace,
through Christ Our Lord,
Amen
